When you make electricity, where exactly do the electrons come from?

This was a question from my children and I’m not sure of the answer when I think about it. I know that if you spin a magnet in an magnetic field (or ferrous material work too?) that you’ll produce electricity. Electricity is the flow of electrons. If I think of the large generators that spin at a power company that are making large amounts of electricity, I realize that they are creating gazillions of electrons every second and sending them down the wire. Where, exactly, are these electrons coming from? When I think that electrons have mass (albeit very, very little), then I really wonder…..shouldn’t something be losing that mass? Could a physicist put this in layman’s terms for me?
Wow, what great answers. Each a little different but each a piece of the whole answer. Really a great explanation. Now, how to pick the best answer?

I need help with an electromagnetic rocket?

An electromagnet is what I’m sure you already know, a magnet powered by electricity. What I don’t know is how to build a rocket using electromagnetism.
A couple of guys did it, but I want an easier sou lotion. Its basically a coil of wire on a wooden plate and connected to a bunch of batteries.
The rocket is a cardboard tube with a nose cone and fins, and a bit of metal on the bottom.
If you have any information, plz help me!!!!!!!
Btw, they’re rocket info is at:

AC Electricity Vs DC?

I keep hearing the same thing, alternating compared to direct swap between terminals, and that AC is good for transformers to change volts, But can anyone add to this, e.g. how does the current change, is it because the magnet spins, if so how does that change the current direction, and if it’s constantly changing how does the electricity reach the transformer

electricity is delivered to our home..?

The electricity that is delivered to our homes from regional generating stations uses high voltage _____.
to increase the safety of transmitting electricity
to keep the available power the same despite the low current
to induce magnetic fields in the wires
………………………….
Which of the following sets of words are not related?
magnetic field, sunspots
pulsar, spinning

Electricity and Magnetism?

hey, i need some help.

I need help with some ideas for a science project, I have come up with an experiment that can either be electricity, magnetism or electromagnetism and then i have to demonstrate it infront of the class. Any ideas?
(other than forming a circuit with a nail and making it a magnet)

How to calculate how much watts and voltage a crude dynamo will generate?

I want to calculate amount of electricity generated by an AC dynamo, given the width and length or copper wire used as coil and size and power of the magnet.

What is biomass energy? I need to know everything about biomass energy :}?

I need to know what it is, how it gets a copper wire/magnet to spin to produce electricity, where in the world it is used, how expensive or cheap it is to harness, what companies and/or governments are researching this type of energy, and what are some problems with the energy harnessed from fossil fuels.

How to move an empty soda can across the room?

You can’t touch the can
you can’t use magnet
you can’t blow it
YOu can’t roll it from a slope

*hint use static elcetrictiy

What is the stronget method to make electricity which can move an empty can ?

Generating energy through gravity with pendulums?

I’ve learned that a coiled wire rotating around a magnet generates electricity. My question is, if you have a pendulum and you placed it into swing, could it rotate a coil around a magnet and generate enough power to subsequently raise itself back into starting position?

I was doing a calc question that asked us to calculate how far a pendulum travels, and given the stated conditions it travelled nearly 6 times farther than you moved it. What’s the best friction dampening possible we have to employ to allow the pendulum to swing longer? How would the weight of the pendulum affect the distance traveled? Does the extra momentum of a heavier weight get exactly cancelled out by the greater attraction of the extra mass, in the absence of friction? Will a circular path cause further travel than an arc?

Seems like gravity is ‘always on’. Would be interesting if we could capture it somehow. Have any attempts at this been made?

I’d be curious to know how long you could keep a pendulum going through this, if it all, even if not as a viable source of energy.
